Summer update from a busy band.

Trip to Denmark.

June was a busy month for the band which included a weekend trip to Denmark. The band performed in a joint concert with  Concord Brass band, our MD Stigs’ old band and competed at Brass Band Battle.

The joint concert was held at the Salvation Army Citadel in the center of Copenhagen and some of the people in the audience were the organizers of the trip back in 1986, when Imps first visited Denmark. They enjoyed the concert and the chance to meet up with Alan Briggs, our second horn player, whowas in the band back in ’86 when the band last visited Denmark.11428562_822405534503144_8721284595862011475_n

At the Brass Band Battle,  the audience vote for their favorite band and soloist of the day. It is a great day with bands on all levels and with great opportunities for younger and inexperienced players to listen and get inspiration and for the higher section bands to spot up and coming players from the lower sections. The day was a great success with our soloist Ea, on Baritone coming second in the soloist competition being pipped to the post by three small girls playing ‘Let it go’ dressed up as Ella, Anna and Olaf from the Disney film Frozen. The full band went on to win the overall contest performing the March – ‘The President’, Caravan, Carrickfergus (solo) and the Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

On the final day, we managed to get a bit of sightseeing done and tasted the local food before the band headed back home.

Defending champions.

Back home the band started preparing for Morley march contest, where the band were defending champions. The band performed the hymn tune ‘Deep Harmony’ after the success of last year, and chose to show off their strengths on the march ‘The President’, with Mike Howley taking the band. Unfortunately, the band did not manage to retain the champion band status but finished in a respectable 3rd place.

Summertime is Christmastime..???jul

We finished our busy first half of 2015  with a Christmas CD recording. So at the moment the people of Gawthorpe can get a bit of Christmas atmosphere to go with the lovely Yorkshire summer weather if they pass the band room on rehearsal nights. The cd will unfortunately not be for sale, but is going to be distributed with The Peoples Friend magazine around Christmas time. After the cd recording the band will go on a well deserved three weeks summer break and be back in the beginning of August to start rehearsals for Doc. Martins Contest.
