Mandy started playing cornet at age 7 with her local village band Drighlington and quickly progressed passing her grade 5 at age ten years old under the tutelage of Ian Shires (Grimethorpe). She enjoyed many years at Drighlington being conducted by the likes of the late Eric Dews, Mark Bentham and Colin Hardy with the highlight of representing Yorkshire at the National Youth Championships at Wembley. It was at Drighlington that Mandy met her now husband Steve Graham (Euphonium), with whom she has two young daughters.
At age 18 Mandy moved to university in Newcastle and took a break from banding to focus on her studies, however upon returning to Yorkshire three years later soon found herself back in the banding scene. Mandy has played with several bands over the years, most recently with Crofton Silver, Meltham and Meltham Mills, and Wakefield Metropolitan. Mandy has spent many years playing the flugel horn, with a brief spell on tenor horn before returning to cornet only at the start of 2017. Throughout her time in banding Mandy has also enjoyed taking part in several European tours to Germany, France, Holland and Italy and has represented Yorkshire at the second and third section national finals.
Outside of banding Mandy works full time as a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy and is also completing her PhD. She enjoys spending time with her family and has a love of rollercoasters, scuba diving and action packed adventures!
Mandy is delighted to have been invited to join such a prestigious band as the Yorkshire Imps and is looking forward to a new and exciting challenge in what is her thirtieth year in brass banding!
Peter has joined the band from Barton Town Band and has won his first contest with the band.
