Imps Are Back On The Map!

11034443_779759122101119_6329648652205933797_oLast Sunday saw Imps achieve their second respectable result of the year with 5th place at the Yorkshire Area. With only one place behind Brighouse and Rastrick (last years Yorkshire Area Champions).

A busy start to the year proved worthwhile as Imps went away with their best area result since 1998 when they came 5th with Peter Graham’s “Montage”.

Following the danger of relegation which has threatened the band, Imps are again safely in the Championship Section for another year and hope to uphold their reputation at the Spring Festival in May. 11059717_779779512099080_7359602791529459664_n

Feedback from the adjudicators and Peter Graham on Sunday concluded that Imps gave an impressive effort on stage and delivered a well rounded musical performance. The British Bandsman Magazine who were also in attendance described the band as being “on its best form for years in a really fine show”.

A Great Start to the Year for Imps

The Yorkshire Imperial Band gave their first performance of Peter Graham’s “The Torchbearer” at Brass at the Guild Contest (Preston) in preparation for the Yorkshire area in March. The band achieved a very well deserved third place and secured their reputation as the best Yorkshire band in attendance, with new members/new soloists of the band rising to the challenge. Additional to the bands success at Preston, Principal Euphonium player Adrian Nurney took away the prize for best euphonium following his ballsy top Eb  which lasted all of ten seconds. The full result can be found here: http://www.4barsrest.com/news/detail.asp?id=19867#.VNDBcousWlu

Imps will be attending a test-piece preview concert before the area along with Hade Edge, Dinnington, Garforth and Tingley who will all be performing their set test piece and a hymn tune/march of their choice. This will be held on the 1st March at St. Paul’s Hall at the University of Huddersfield, with doors opening at 7.00pm for a 7.30 start (free entry). With two performances of the Torchbearer in the bag, Imps hope to put on a first-class performance for the Yorkshire Area in March.
