Joseph started playing the Trombone at the age of 6 under the guidance of local brass teacher Stan Lippeatt and is currently studying with Brett Baker. He also receives tuition once a term from Chris Houlding at the Birmingham Conservatoire.
His banding career started at Sherwood Forest Brass, before moving to the Blidworth Welfare Band where at the age of 12 he became their Solo Trombone player. Joseph has also been a member of the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain for 4 years, where he is their current Principal Trombone. He is also a member of the Black Dyke Junior Trombone Quartet, performing at the Singapore Low Brass Festival in 2016, Elland Silver Youth Band and the Yorkshire Youth Band.
2017 has been an exciting year so far for Joe as he won the Best Soloist award at the National and European Youth Championships, as well as taking the Soloist prize at the recent Shirebrook Entertainment Contest.
Joe is delighted at the age of 13 to have been appointed as the Solo Trombone of the famous Yorkshire Imperial Band and is looking forward to following in the famous footsteps of his predecessors.
