Kate Johnson

Following in her Lippeatt family footsteps Kate started playing Flugel Horn at aged 7 in 1989, joining a local junior band Crystal Brass and shortly after the City of Sheffield Youth Brass Band along side a young Michael Dodd. She then spent many happy years playing at Maltby Miners Welfare Band, before joining Thoresby Colliery Band in 2003 on second cornet. In 2006 Kate became the bands Fugel Horn player and regular soloist and stayed in this position till having a year off playing in 2009 after having her second son.

In 2010 she returned on Repiano taking part in the National Finals on Breath of Souls in 2011. Since then Kate has had the opportunity to return to flugel featuring as soloist at concerts and the 2016 National Finals on Journey of the Lone Wolf.

Kate has been fortunate enough to play under the baton of many wonderful resident and professional conductors including; Gary Cutt, Ian Porthouse, Philip Harper, Ian McElligot, Mike Fowles, Derek Broadbent and Brian Grant who has been her tutor and mentor for many years.

After a recent break from playing Kate is very excited to be playing with such a friendly and talented band as the Yorkshire Imps and is very much looking forward to working again with Martin Heartfield and the experience of working for the first time with Russel Gray.

In her personal life Kate is married with two children and is professional Heart Failure Specialist Nurse in the High Peak and Dales.
