The Yorkshire Imperial Urqhuart Travel Band is pleased to announce that Russell Gray will lead them to the 2017 Yorkshire Regional Contest. The set test piece is Herbert Howells, Pageantry. The band hopes this collaboration to be a successful one that will secure Imps’ status as a Championship Section band and one to build upon for the future.
A former member of the Black Dyke Band, Russell Gray is currently Adjunct Professor at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Australia), Musical Director of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and has enjoyed working with many varied ensembles including Her Majesty’s Band of the Coldstream Guards, the Prince of Denmark’s Brass Ensemble, The Danish Royal Life Guards Band, Cambrian Philharmonic Orchestra, Wrexham Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Pops Orchestra, the Mueller International Chamber Orchestra, and the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra.
Band Chairman Mark Tweedle told A4B: “Russell is one of the most successful and sought after conductors in banding. His considerable experience at the highest level, both as a performer and conductor, will be invaluable in preparing the band to deliver on the contest stage. This appointment is a clear indication of the band’s determination to develop both musically and technically.”
