It has been a while since we have posted on the website, and for good reason too! We (the Imps) have been hard at work preparing for several contests and concerts, as well as working with a new conductor – it has all been a bit hectic recently!
The Imps didn’t have the best of weekends at this years spring festival, with Philip Sparkes Music for Battle Creek, however we did manage to give a performance worthy enough to stay in the Senior Cup. Now to some, this would be disappointing, however the band came off stage happy in the knowledge that we all performed together and enjoyed our time on stage with new conductor Steve Walsh.
Fresh from the unfruitful weekend in Blackpool, the Imps were more determined than ever to pick themselves back up and restore some glory (and some funds into the coffers) at the Whit Friday Marches.
We competed in 10 Tameside contests and 1 in Saddleworth managing two first places on the Tameside circuit against strong opposition from bands such as Fodens, Leyland, Wingates and Rothwell.
Full results can be found here.
After working with Steve Walsh for the past 2 months, Steve has won over the band, not only earning the trust and respect of the band but he has brought a vibrancy and energy to the band that really engaged all players and improved the band. We hope that Steve continues his great work with the band, especially after leading us to our two victories on Whit Friday.
We would like to thank everyone who showed an interest in the vacancy.
The band have made a few changes to the players and would like to welcome several new members to the band.
Firstly, we would like to welcome Dawn McKone, who came out of retirement before the areas to help us out and just can’t get enough. Dawn has joined the band on Repiano, adding some great experience to the back row bench. Dawn is camera shy and very elusive!!
Secondly, we welcome Roy Taylor onto the back row bench too who joins us from Old Silkstone. Roy has tons of experience with top flight brass bands and his move is very much welcomed in the Imps cornet section.
From the other side of the world, we welcome Ash Paradise. Ash moved from Australia to England some few months ago and has since moved to Yorkshire and joined Imps on the Solo Cornet line. Ash has been welcomed to the ladies cohort of the band with open arms, totting the number of ladies in the band to 3!
The band are accepting applications for the following positions:
